History and Architecture FRIDAY 12

Silent Play: Palladian Geometries

Event location: Itinerant

Event time: 6:30 PM

Duration: 1 hour

EVENT CONCLUDED

An immersive experience conceived by Carlo Presotto, with Matteo Balbo, blending theatre, storytelling, and urban landscape. Financed as part of the “Fabbrichiamo Cultura 2025” grant promoted by the Municipality of Vicenza.

Starting from the arch of Le Scalette, the route climbs to offer a view over the entire shape of the city from above. The few remaining medieval towers, the volume of the Basilica Palladiana, and the hill at the city’s center. Like a theatrical backdrop, the gaze embraces the city framed by the plain and the pre-Alps. Palladio’s architectural interventions stand out for their strong – sometimes even conflicting – dialogue with their surroundings. The performance immerses participants in a journey between reality and representation, guiding them along San Bastian through tales, music, and surprises until reaching a unique place: Villa Almerico Capra, known as “La Rotonda”. As “in a very large theatre”, here Palladian geometries challenge the context. On the return route along the old littorina track, skirting the ancient Santa Caterinetta al porto district, Andrea Palladio’s words prompt us to question how cities take shape based on the desires of their inhabitants.
