Marco Follini

Born in Rome in 1954. Member of the Chamber of Deputies from 1996 to 2006 and Senator of the Republic from 2006 to 2023. Former leader of the Christian Democratic youth movement, board member of RAI, and secretary of the UDC. Deputy Prime Minister from 2004 to 2005, he founded the political movement L’Italia di mezzo. He is the author of several essays, the latest of which is Beneficio d’inventario (2025). He is currently a columnist for L’Espresso and writes a weekly column (“Il punto di vista di Follini”) for the online news agency Adnkronos.

A personal story intertwined with the political and institutional history of our country. In his latest book, Marco Follini, former Deputy Prime Minister, recounts an unexpected discovery: his father’s membership in the Gladio organization. A revelation that leads him to question family memory and Italy’s role in the postwar era, including its relations with the United States. An intense work blending autobiography and historical-political essay, reflecting on power, its ambiguities, and the often-invisible thread connecting the public and the private. In conversation with Gian Marco Mancassola, director of TVA Notizie.
